Start of Calder Glen mill lade
At the end of the Laigh road this structure does not mark the end of the path. It marks the start of the lade that fed the Calder Glen mill.

The Calder Glen Lade
This old photograph of the Calder Glen lade was taken right at the start of the Laigh road.

The Calder Glen Lade
This photograph was taken from the same spot as the previous one but separated by around 125 years. You never see water in it now.

Falls on the Cloak burn
At the top of these falls is the weir that directed water from the Cloak burn to the Calder Glen mill. In the bottom left hand corner you can make out the channel in which the water wheel rotated.

Falls on the Cloak burn
This old photograph is similar to the previous one but shows the mill wheel in-situ and the wooden lade on trestles which fed it with water.

Calder Glen Mill Wheel
Taken from an elevated position you can see the channel that the water wheel rotated within.

Falls on the Cloak burn
Taken in 2024 the channel in which the water wheel rotated can be seen on the left. If you look closely at the photograph you will be able to see some of the iron structure of the water wheel is still in place.

The outflow of the Cloak burn
Taken in April 2022. On the far bank of the Cloak burn is the remnants of a wall from one of the buildings that used to exist on this side of the road and was part of the Calder Glen mill complex. The next image is a sketch of the these buildings.

Sketch of the Calder Glen mill complex
In the centre of the sketch behind a small tree is a low lying addition to the main building that stretches to the banks of the Cloak burn. It is the remains of part of the wall of this building that can be seen in the previous photograph

The outflow of the Cloak burn
This was taken in April 2024 shortly after the remnant wall of the building that used to be there collapsed into the Cloak burn. In around 160 years mother nature has turned this large industrial complex back to what it was before.
