Glenhead School

Glenhead had a school because at the time the Loch was much larger and passage to the north side for the village schools was impracticable.

Robert Crisp (No2) was born in 1910 and died in 1991. In this photograph he looks to be around 15 years old which dates the photograph as 1925. He trained as a cabinet maker at Joe Johnstone's and built the dormer additions to Mr Johnstone's house at the end of Main Street (Calder House). He lived for many years in the first cottage at the Bridgend where his son Robert and daughter Elizabeth still reside.

This photograph looks to have been taken a year prior to the previous one by comparing pupils common to both which dates this photograph to 1924. George Garvin is noted to have died aged 12. The records show the only Garvin recorded in Renfrewshire as dying aged between 10 and 12 between 1880 and 1940 was a Thomas Rodger Garvin in 1903 aged 10 whose mother was a McMillan. So far I've not been able to resolve this. Curiously there was a Thomas Rodger Garvin born in 1902 whose mother was also a McMillan.
It is interesting to note the class is clearly made up of a range of ages. The level of poverty is also clear to see.
