The purpose of the site is to help those new to the village to connect with its past and for those who have left for pastures new to remember what was left behind
By 1856 the Calder Glen mill had buildings on both sides of the Calder Glen Road.

By 1895 the buildings had either been enlarged or other lower lying buildings were added to the site

By 1913 the business was in decline. The large building on the Calder side of the road has been abandoned with operations concentrated on the building sited on the Cloak burn.
