Mills 1913
This map, published in 1913, shows the location of all the mills that once operated in and around Lochwinnoch. Calderhaugh mill is located towards the bottom centre of the map. This mill was also known as the New mill when first erected and latterly as the Silk mill. 1856 Map of Calderhaugh Mill
Calderhaugh mill was extended twice, once in 1823 eastwards and again in 1835 westwards. These extensions made it one of the largest mills in the west of Scotland outside of Glasgow. Behind the western extension is a small building. This housed the steam engine that was added to provide additional power for the enlarged mill.

1895 Map of Calderhaugh Mill
1895 map showing the reduction (circled in blue) in the size of the mill as a result of the 1878 fire which destroyed the eastern extension as well as the original building leaving only the western extension standing. A small part of the eastern extension did survive. This was the small building adjoining the back of the eastern extension which can be seen to now be remote from the remnants of the mill. Similarly, the water supply is also now remote from the remaining part of the mill.

1913 Map of Calderhaugh Mill
This 1911 map of Calderhaugh mill shows a substantial addition to the mill where the eastern extension used to be. This is a weaving shed. An internal view of this building can be seen in the equipment gallery. Looking closely at the map the part of the eastern extension which survived the fire now appears to be out with the curtilage of the site. It appears to be within the boundary of the Viewfield Chair and Cabinet works. Circled in blue is the only part of the mill which remains standing in 2024. It is now a block of residential flats.

Calderhaugh Mill 27th Oct 1938
An aerial shot of the village taken on 27th October 1938. Calderhaugh mill is circled in red. The large extension noted in the 1911 map of the site is clearly visible. This was the weaving shed. It is a 1 storey building with a complex roof comprised of many hips.
