The Calderhaugh mill and the Calderpark mill had their names shortened to the New mill and the Old mill. I guess these names were less of a mouthful. Calderhaugh was built in 1789 and Calderpark in 1788. Latterly Calderhaugh became known as the Silk Mill due to specialising in silk products (well I never!!) from the late 1800's. In keeping with the villages transformation from an industrial hub to a dormitory town this building has been converted into a set of flats.
