PB the Cairn
Lochwinnoch
The purpose of the site is to help those new to the village to connect with its past and for those who have left for pastures new to remember what was left behind
West Church Gallery

West Church
Probably taken early 1900's. The Lochhead Cabinet works is up and running and it started in 1897. The church is viewed either from the upstairs rear of the Spar shop or the one adjacent to it. The next image is a map showing the line of sight.

1911 Map of the West Church
I've drawn a line of sight matching up key elements in the previous photograph which I have labelled on this map. Note how the West Church is set back further than the rear boundary of the Parish Church.

West Church
The church has a nice avenue of trees leading up to it.

West Church
Obviously taken from an upstairs window in the property opposite. The date is any bodies guess.

June 1970
EETO Insulations was incorporated on January 1970. Pat's mum worked here for a while. The Company no longer exists.

March 1974
This drawing is part of a submission by the Clyde Cooperage to demolish the West Church. Gaining that site would "square off" the Lochhead site nicely.

June 1976
By 1976 the Church was gone. My dad found this old Church notice board languishing in a pile of rubbish in the old railway siding.

November 1981
The church is gone and whiskey casks and a whiskey transport can be seen where temperance would once have been preached.

August 1995
Now even the whiskey is gone.

September 2024
The avenue to the church now leads to a new housing development. The trees have witnessed the entire cycle. Wonder what comes next - the flood?. Probably with the increasing rainfall and storms due to global warming.
