Calderhaugh Mill June 1983
Calderhaugh mill shortly before it was closed. The mill was set back from the main road with a high wall separating it from main street. This photograph was taken from the mill side of that high wall in 1983. Photograph is courtesy of Canmore.

Calderhaugh Mill June 1983
Former steam engine building at Calderhaugh mill Lochwinnoch, currently doubles as a garage and store. Although the mill does not close for a further two years it is clearly in a very poor condition. This was taken from the lane leading round to the bowling green. The photograph is courtesy of Canmore.

Calderhaugh Mill June 1983
This is a view of the former steam engine building at Calderhaugh mill Lochwinnoch taken from the opposite side of the building to the previous picture. Although the mill does not close for a further two years clearly some demolition has already taken place. Probably due to the increasingly unsafe condition of some of the least used buildings. The photograph is courtesy of Canmore.

Calderhaugh Mill 1985
This photograph was taken by Iain Crosbie sometime in 1985, two years after the previous photograph. It is at an oblique angle to the previous photograph. The intervening two years have not added much deterioration to this rear gable of the former steam engine building.

Calderhaugh Mill 1985
Internal view of the second floor of the Calderhaugh mill. This photograph has been taken from roughly the same place as the 1983 second floor photograph. Given the state of the place this was probably taken shortly after the mill closed in 1985.The photograph was taken by Iain Crosbie.

Calderhaugh Mill 1986
This was taken in 1986. The debris that littered the floors in the photographs dated 1983 and around 1985 when the mill closed has been cleared away. This would indicate that preparations were underway from 1986 for the mill to be converted to a block of residential flats.

Demolition of garage and Store.
Photograph taken in 1986 and the serious demolition work of parts of the Calderhaugh mill has begun. This was the former steam engine room.

Demolition of parts of the Silk Mill
Photograph taken in 1986 and the serious demolition work of parts of the Calderhaugh mill has begun. The spiral staircase that was once internal to the building is now external. The glass enclosure that protected this staircase from the elements can be seen in the Building Gallery in the photograph with the bus. This gable shows the outline of the complex hip roof that comprised the weaving shed that once stood at this location.
